CRESWELL – After the conclusion of a hard-fought 3-3 season in the Valley League, four Creswell Middle School Tigers eighth-grade football players were selected to various post-season All-Star teams.
Tyler Bowers has been selected for several All-Star teams during his CMS career.
The 5-foot-7 speedster – who runs a 4.7-second 40-meter time – is the leader of the Tiger offense and was selected to represent Team Oregon at the NFL Hall of Fame Youth Championships in Canton, Ohio this past week. Canton is the site of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and Museum.
With Bowers playing running back on the frozen Ohio field at Tom Benson HOF stadium, Team Oregon played four games during three days against teams from all over the country, including Team Utah, Team Kentucky and others winning.
Team Oregon took fourth place in the national tournament.
JW Cheechov and Cameron Dow, eighth-grade linemen for the Tigers, were selected for the Oregon FBU All-Star Team, which played in a regional tournament in Tri-Cities Washington on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 for the right to compete in the FBU National Championships in Naples, Fla.
Cheechov, a 5-foot-10, 220-pound offensive lineman, played guard and tackle for the Tigers as well as the Oregon FBU team.
Dow, a 6-foot, 190-pound lineman, played primarily on the defensive line as nose guard and defensive end.
The FBU Oregon team played two games over two days at Neil F. Lampson Stadium in Kennewick, Wash., amid subzero temperatures and light snow flurries. After defeating their regional rival, Eastern Washington 19-6 in its first game, FBU Oregon faced the No. 3 team in the country, Seattle, for the regional championship.
After some offensive fireworks early in the first quarter and the score 12-7, the game turned into a defensive battle with both teams unable to move into scoring position until late in the fourth quarter. Seattle pulled away with a final touchdown with three minutes left in the game to make the final score 18-7.
Oregon FBU was named reserve champion in the region and gave the tournament’s top seed all it could handle for most of the game.
In addition to these postseason honors, Bowers and Cheechov will join their teammate Tayson Honer, a 6-foot-1 defensive end, for the Tigers, on the Oregon All-State Team in June 2020, before they embark on their high school careers.
