WRESTLING: SEASON PREVIEW

Key returners: Rogelio Legorreta will be returning for the Bulldogs. Three of the seven girls competing are returning, Brielle Brick, Carley Wilkerson, and Guinevere DeVore, all of whom were also on the soccer team.
Key departures: 2019 state qualifier Alex Metteer transferred out of Creswell to Eugene so he will not be returning in Bulldog colors this year. Hannah Bettis and Jaxson Wilkerson were the team’s only seniors last year.
New Face: Coach Mario Perez
Strengths: Perez is a former wrestler and referee. ”There is nothing better to me than a high school sports and we have to remember that the kids are always learning. Moves change, rules change, and we all have to evolve with it. At the end of the day, we just want them to be competitive, enjoy the atmosphere, and learn a few good lessons along the way,” Perez said.
Season obstacles: With a large chunk of the roster being new to wrestling, it could be a struggle to place at tournament. ”We’re working hard on our fundamentals. Just like in every other sport, you have to learn to walk before you can run,” Perez said.
Big Rival: Pleasant Hill holds all of the qualities that a team looks for in a rival. ”I grew up in Nyssa, so I know what it’s like to grow up and wrestle for a small school like these kids are. The more time I spend here, the more I realize just how big the rivalry with P-Hill can be,” Perez said.
