CRESWELL – Jazz Band 1 had an opportunity to perform and receive feedback from clinicians when they represented Creswell High School at the annual District Jazz Festival, held Nov. 8 at Willamette High School.
The unadjudicated festival is designed as a workshop for bands heading into the competition festival season.
Jazz 1 performed ”Blue Roses” and ”Little Big Gumbo.” Soloists were Amy Myers on clarinet, Abby Mercer on alto saxophone, Brandon Moehlmann and Gonzalo Cardenas on trombone.
Clinician Jason Palmer, a percussionist from Portland, ”was highly complimentary of our band and their performance,” said Creswell Music Boosters president, Mandy Hoggard. She added that he praised the band’s ”solid performance” and understanding of the ”emotion of their music.”
Palmer also worked with the rhythm section, helping them to ”think about a possible new and exciting way to play their music” and encouraged the band to keep pushing ”into the finest details of the music,” Hoggard said.
