Samuel H. Cole

SAM COLE

Samuel H. Cole was born in Flint, Mich. in 1931 and was adopted as an infant. The family moved to Santa Monica, California, and Sam graduated from Santa Monica High School.
Shortly thereafter, Sam joined the Marines. He was sent to Korea and was engaged in the battle at the Chosin Reservoir. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled in UCLA and graduated with a business degree. Sam worked for Hughes Aircraft, Northrup-Grumman, the United States Postal Service and finally retired after managing a sporting goods store in Eugene.
Sam met Lyn LaGrander in August 1985 and they were married on Dec. 28, 1985 at the Church of the Resurrection in Eugene.
After retirement, Sam and Lyn enjoyed RVing, driving across Canada, snowbirding in Needles, California and Green Valley, Arizona. They also traveled to Kauai, New Zealand, Australia, Fiji and the Cook Islands.
Sam leaves behind his wife, Lyn; his stepdaughters Gail LaGrander (Jerry Johnson) of Tempe, Arizona, and Amy LaGrander; grandchildren Reid and Lauren Smith, of Springfield; and the best dog, Ellie.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Creswell Presbyertian Church. A reception will follow.
