Longs celebrate 70 years wed

Cliff & Mary Lou Long

FALL CREEK – Cliff and Mary Lou Long of Fall Creek will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Sept. 18. They were married on Sept. 18, 1949 in Delake, Oregon.
They have one son, Cliff and his wife, Sali, of New Mexico. They also have grandchildren: Matthew, of California; Jessica (Danny) Robinson; and Duncan Stewart.
Cliff served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He worked for Long Bell in Grand Ronde, Oregon, loading railroad cars with logs. He worked as a timber faller and finished up as a heavy equipment operator for several logging companies.
Mary is a homemaker and has worked as a volunteer for several hospitals in the area, where she helped develop a tele/check program for checking on shut-ins once a day for a welfare check. She also volunteers for Big Brother and Big Sister programs in Springfield.
Both Cliff and Mary helped organize Christian Loggers in the Eugene-Springfield area.
They are planning something special for a later date to celebrate their anniversary.
