I sometimes feel like with our protective masks on we are all in robotic, safety mentality.
I need my friendly town back. I want us all to “catch the wave.”
Everyone knows I am a high-five, handshaking, hugging person. But since COVID-19 has entered the scene I and most others try to practice social distancing, avoiding contact and wearing masks and gloves in public areas.
I am really proud of the Creswell citizens who are following the safety guidelines. I have a challenge for us, though: I would like you all to “catch the wave.”
I have noticed that when I look out from behind my mask, I sometimes get so focused on my task that I forget to look at people’s faces. I forget to smile beneath my mask. I have taught here for over 30 years and a huge perk is that everyone knows me. Pre-COVID, most people in town would say hello, introduce me to family members when I am in a store, etc.
Let’s all be safe and wear the PPE (personal protective equipment) but not let it mask our emotions. Smile beneath the mask, make eye contact – and most of all, wave. It can be practiced from a safe distance and it is a nice way to connect in this odd time.
Come on, Creswell, let’s all catch the wave! It is safe, and it just may help us stay afloat in these crazy times.
