Larry “Guy” Wheeler Jr., 44, of Junction City, went to be with his Lord on July 22, 2019.
Born April 7, 1975 in Klamath Falls, Guy grew up moving from coast to coast with his family, as his dad was in the United States Air Force.
Guy graduated from Thurston High School in Springfield in 1993. He was a proud fifth-generation Oregonian. In his fourth-grade history class, he told his teacher how to properly pronounce “Willamette.” She didn’t believe him.
Guy was active in the Boy Scouts. He started Cub Scouts in Belgrade, Montana and attained Eagle Scout in Walterville, Oregon.
His favorite place to live was Belgrade, where he was active in scouting, baseball, basketball and football. He loved seeing the Bridger Mountains from his bedroom window.
He especially enjoyed the World’s Fair in Memphis, Tennessee; visiting Washington, D.C., Mount Vernon, Arlington Cemetery and the Changing of the Guard and the Smithsonian; swimming in the Atlantic Ocean; and seeing Mount Rushmore.
Guy enjoyed his family, camping, hunting, fishing and being out in nature. His first camping trip was to Crane Prairie Reservoir when he was six weeks old, which became one of his favorite places to camp and fish. He especially enjoyed looking out over Odell Lake.
Guy is survived by three sons, Johnny, Travis and Trent Wheeler; parents, Larry and Diana (Wiebe) Wheeler, formerly of Creswell; sister, Wendy (Brian) Wells; maternal grandfather, Ron Wiebe, formerly of Creswell; close friends Lauren Kinkade and Melissa Hanson; and many family members and friends.
Guy was preceded in death by his sister, Melissa Wheeler; paternal grandparents Loyd and Henrietta Wheeler, of Creswell; and maternal grandmother and former Creswell resident Darlene Wiebe.
