Recent scholarships and honors have Creswell Library Director Su Liudahl and Youth Librarian Nick Caum eager to develop fresh ideas to better serve their community.
Liudahl received a $2,000 State Library of Oregon scholarship to attend the Association of Rural and Small Libraries Conference on Sept. 5-7 in Burlington, Vermont.
Because Creswell Library/Lane Library District strives to be frugal with funds, ”We seldom get the chance to attend a national conference, so I’m very grateful for the scholarship that makes this possible and I’m anxious to get some fresh ideas for how to use our beautiful new space,” she added. ”Meeting with other librarians – especially from small libraries like ours – is always inspiring.”
Caum is one of about 15 Oregon librarians selected to travel to Memphis on Nov. 3-4 as part of the latest Future Ready Librarians cohort. The initiative, an extension of Future Ready Schools, teaches librarians to partner with other community organizations to create college and career readiness programs targeting middle school students.
The library’s Summer Reading Program, spearheaded by Caum, was also recognized by the State Library of Oregon as one of the year’s outstanding SRP or Early Literacy programs that used their Ready to Read grant funds. Creswell’s SRP was honored for how it incorporated the five key activities associated with early literacy: singing, talking, reading, writing and play.
Three other Oregon libraries were also recognized out of 178 that used grant funds.
