Two popular local musical groups donated their harmonies at a benefit concert last month to raise money for the Cottage Grove Carousel Project at Calvary Chapel.
In the third performance of the Carousel’s monthly concert series, the Calvary Creek Band and Jackie Jae & Jason Cowsill filled the church sanctuary with rock, pop and folk cover songs from the 1960s and ’70s. It was the first time the two groups shared the same stage.
Don Williams, president of the Friends of the Cottage Grove Carousel, said that ”these monthly concerts bring people together and showcase local musicians for a good cause.”
The Cowsills, a Eugene couple, plays in venues throughout the Pacific Northwest, including Saginaw Vineyard. Jason Cowsill’s father, Bob, was part of the famous singing family that inspired the 1970s television show, ”The Partridge Family.”
Calvary Creek later took the stage with a mix of songs that were at the top of the Billboard charts when first released. The band performs regularly in the community at venues such as the summer concert series in Bohemia Park, Bohemia Mining Days (BMD), Saginaw Vineyard, as well as recent appearances in the Creswell Fourth of July and BMD parades.
For those who enjoy the sounds of the Beach Boys, the next Carousel concert will be on Aug. 25 with Cottage Grove band, Men from S.U.R.F.
