Love of pets leads to happy tales

I had an opportunity to speak with Dr. Kris Willaman, the small animal veterinarian. She and her husband, Wes, own and operate the South Willamette Veterinary Clinic in Creswell.
Kris is the small animal doctor and Wes handles the large animals. They both attended Ohio State University in Columbus, where they received their degrees as Doctors of Veterinary Medicine. They had met at vet school, and after Wes graduated he moved to Oregon to begin his practice.
Kris followed two years later after her graduation and they soon were wed.
Kris worked in Cottage Grove, where she continued to learn a great deal about her profession. Kris told about delivering a calf by Caesarean section, she, not the cow, was six months pregnant at the time. She spoke of another cow that kicked over a sheet of plywood, which fell on top of Kris, then the cow jumped clear over it and luckily didn’t land on the board with her underneath. Once, a mule needed shots and that mule was not interested and proceeded to display its prowess with it hooves. Never a dull moment in this profession.
They bought a small clinic in Pleasant Hill and were there 10 years prior to purchasing land and building a very functional clinic on Emerald Parkway here in Creswell where they have been for the past 15 years.
Kris says this is the most rewarding occupation as she has such a joy seeing the animals recover and there is such beauty in the animals she treats.
She is a sentimental person and comforting to animal owners when they have a sick dog or cat and shows her compassion.
This was demonstrated during the 15 years she took care of our pets. They serve the community well.
