Recreating the past – Pacific NW antique aircraft tour coming to town

Gini Davis/The Creswell Chronicle

The Pacific Northwest Air Tour is coming to Creswell for a lunch stop on Thursday, July 11. Over 30 antique and classic airplanes will be arriving in the late morning on Thursday and departing early that afternoon. Organized by the Puget Sound Antique Airplane Club, the objective of the tour is to recreate the historic barnstorming tours of the 1930s that brought aviation appreciation to communities across the nation. A sampling of plane types includes pre-war Howards and Interstates; Stearman and Naval Aircraft Factory military trainers; and numerous post-war Aeronca, Beechcraft, Bellanca, Cessna, Piper and Taylorcraft aircraft. The tour begins in McMinnville and will make stops in Cottage Grove, Grants Pass and Gold Beach prior to arriving in Creswell. The tour aircraft will depart Creswell for an overnight stop in Bend.
