Lane County Fair canceled

Lane County officials announced today that the 2020 version is canceled. The following news release was sent to area media:

Yesterday, Governor Brown announced that all large gatherings will be prohibited through September. As a result of that announcement, the Lane County Fair, which was slated to take place July 22–26, will not be held this year.

“We understand and support the need to protect the health of our community and know that hard decisions are being made all across the state,” said Lane Events Center marketing manager and assistant fair organizer Rachel Bivens. “Safety is always our top priority for our fairgoers, exhibitors, vendors and others, but that doesn’t make it any less devastating to cancel an event that families look forward to every summer, and that many vendors depend on for income.”

Fair organizers are working now to contact vendors and provide them with information about the cancellation. Tickets had not yet gone on sale to the general public.

“We will look for creative and safe ways to welcome the community to the Lane County Fairgrounds over the summer, and begin planning to welcome fairgoers back for a spectacular Lane County Fair in 2021,” said Bivens.

The Lane County Fair has been held annually in one form or another since the 1800s. There have been no previous cancellations of the Fair in recent memory, the news release stated.
