It was ”Kids Night” on Saturday at Cottage Grove Speedway, making it the only evening of racing with the Kart races the night before getting rained out. CGS officials acknowledged the fans and businesses who donated bicycles; the track gave away more than 50 bikes. Classes in action included 360 Sprints, Mohawk Metal IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Mods, and Dwarf Cars.
Central Point’s Jake Wheeler did not disappoint in the 360 Sprint main. Wheeler obtained the lead in lapped traffic on the seventh trip past the flag stand and went on to win the race. It is his first career 360 win at CGS and he is the first Oregon driver to win in the division since September 2017. Coburg’s Kevin Williamson dominated the Mohawk Metal IMCA Modified main event. Williamson grabbed the top spot on lap four and never gave it back to win his first Modified race.
In the IMCA Sport Mods, a number of different drivers paced the field. But it would be Jorddon Braaten obtaining the lead on lap 15 with a late race pass. Braaten of Central Point parked his mount in victory lane for the second time this season at Cottage Grove. Finally, Josh King took care of business in the Dwarf Car ranks. King, also from Central Point, led all but two laps of the main event and put his Dwarf in the winner’s circle.
