Fresh food, friendly faces and farmers’ markets

Between the numerous farmers’ markets available and the Double Up Food Bucks program, residents of Lane County have ample opportunities to eat healthy and locally sourced food. This summer, visit all the different markets Lane County has to offer and choose fresh, healthy and locally grown produce. Eat better, shop locally and enjoy all that Oregon has to offer.
CRESWELL FARMERS’ MARKET
The Creswell Farmers’/Crafters’ Market is held monthly in the Tractor Supply Co. parking lot on Melton Road from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through October. The next event will be Sunday, July 7 and will feature local produce and local artisans and their crafts. More info: 541-870-5173
SOUTH VALLEY FARMERS’ MARKET
South Valley Farmers’ Market is open every Thursday through Oct. 31 from 4 to 7 p.m., located at 7th and Main streets in Cottage Grove. Performances by local musicians, plants, flowers, and handmade arts and crafts are on site.
LANE COUNTY FARMERS’ MARKET
This market is celebrating its 50th season, and is open Saturdays through Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Tuesdays through Oct. 30. from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Eugene.
Eugene’s largest farmers’ market features food from more than 85 farmers and food artisans, including local food trucks. Locally grown and organic produce, baked goods, ciders, wines, beers, kombucha, meats, fish, flowers and other items are available for purchase. Handmade jewelry, pottery, woodworking, music and arts and crafts also are available from Willamette Valley artisans. Numerous food vendors park their carts in the area, offering tourists and residents unique and delicious snacks and meals.

SPRINGFIELD FARMERS’ MARKET
Springfield hopes to offer its own farmers’ market this summer in the Mohawk business district. The details are still in the works, but the seasonal market would feature produce, gourmet food and specialty products from local farms and community members. Plans call for the market’s opening later in June or July, to be located between Centennial and Mohawk Boulevard. More info: Facebook@mohawkfarmersmarket.
DOWNTOWN VENETA FARMERS’ MARKET
West on Highway 126, Veneta has been offering a community farmers’ market since 2007. Located on West Broadway and 3rd Street, the market is open every Saturday through Oct. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
