Dear Editor,
The Creswell VFW Post would like to thank the following stores for their support for VFW Buddy Poppies and the recent Loyalty Day celebration: Creswell Bi-Mart, Cascade Home Center, and Tractor Supply Co.
According to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Loyalty Day originally began as ”Americanization Day” in 1921 as a counter to the Communists’ May 1 celebration of the Russian Revolution.
On May 1, 1930, 10,000 VFW members staged a rally at New York’s Union Square to promote patriotism. On Loyalty Day, we reaffirm our allegiance to our country and resolve to uphold the vision of our forefathers. We should also take a moment to appreciate the members of our armed forces who are displaying the ultimate in loyalty and service to protect our freedoms, liberty, and our way of life.
For Loyalty Day, Creswell VFW Post 4039 handed out Buddy Poppies and children’s coloring books on patriotism and home safety. The District Cootie Drum Corps also played martial music in front of the Tractor Supply.
For Memorial Day, the VFW Post will also hold a memorial service at the 1st Street War Memorial beside the Fire Station at 11 a.m.
