It was Mom’s Night Out last Saturday on the quarter-mile clay oval at Cottage Grove Speedway.
Classes on the card included the Todd’s Auto Body Sprints, IMCA Sport Mods, Street Stocks, Hornets, and Dwarf Cars.
The previous evening, Friday, May 10, Karts were in action for the second time of the year with Austin Ellertson (Pee Wee), Jacob Daniels (Beginner Pee Wee), Mason King (5HP Intermediate), Carter Patterson (250cc), Brody Sim (Open Kage) and Jeff Cox (Flat Karts) earning victories.
The Todd’s Auto Body Sprint Cars had a thrilling main event. Jake Waddell of Roseburg set the pace early and held down the first-place position for the first seven circuits.
Jacksonville’s Tanner Holmes rocketed his way to the front on lap eight. Holmes, despite times of being challenged, managed to keep back all contenders to win his first feature of the year at CGS.
Cottage Grove native Kinzer Cox was the runner-up followed by Anthony Pope of Roseburg in third. The rest of the top five consisted of fourth-place winner and Junction City veteran Shane Forte, and fifth went to Tyrell Mead of Winston.
Travis Pruitt, out of Molalla, was the man to beat for much of the IMCA Sport Mod race. Pruitt paced the field for the first 11 laps before losing the position.
Brookings’ Isaac Sanders became the trailblazer and stayed in the top spot, until a last lap spin allowed his brother, Matt Sanders, to grab the lead and the win.
It is the second victory of the year for Matt Sanders; Central Point chauffeur Jorddon Braaten ended the night second over Roseburg’s Doug Coffman. Isaac Sanders wound up in fourth and David Schmidt of Roseburg took fifth. Jesse Skidmore was victorious in the consolation feature earlier in the program.
