8 move forward in superintendent search

Creswell School Board members chose eight candidates to move forward in an effort to fill the vacant superintendent’s position at a meeting last week. Multiple candidates are from the area, said Sarah Herb, executive search and events specialist with Oregon School Boards Association.
The board also discussed the superintendent interview schedule and contract negotiations.
Originally, the plan was to have interviews May 12, 13 and 14; however, the Mother’s Day holiday forced the board to reschedule.
Due to scheduling conflicts with Board Director David Eusted, the board elected to have its first set of interviews May 7, with three candidates interviews already complete.
The remaining interviews are scheduled for May 13 and 14, and then the candidate deliberation begins at 7 p.m.
Steve Kelley, director of board development for OSBA, also prepared the board for when it will need to negotiate the superintendent’s contract, which will be later in the hiring process.
He said it’s up to the board and its attorney how to prepare, and a draft must be ready when a top candidate is identified because it should happen the next day, Kelley said. If those negotiations fall through, the runner-up will go through the same process.
“You had a big pool of quality candidates,” Kelley said. “I hope to find that the right one for you is in the eight identified.”
