Bark in the Park: Walk, run, pant

Grab those fuzzy friends: The largest pet event in southern Willamette Valley is scheduled to return May 19 at Alton Baker Park. “Bark in the Park” — Greenhill Humane Society’s annual fundraiser — is celebrating its 26th anniversary.
“(It’s) a wonderful celebration for all of the pet lovers in our community,” said Megan Brezover, event and community engagement manager. “This is one of the largest dog-friendly timed races in Oregon, and promotes a healthy bond with our furry family members.”
The event consists of a 2K walk, a 5K and a 10K run, but Brezovar added that there’s far more to the event.
“It’s a huge party with local food, vendors, dog sports demonstrations, kid-friendly activities and fun contests for humans and dogs alike,” she said.
Last year, the event drew more than 1,200 participants and 700 dogs; it’s important to note, she said, that runners don’t have to own a dog in order to participate.
This year, Greenhill’s goal is to raise $120,000, Brezover said. Learn more about it at www.Green-hill.org.
