New Miss Springfield is Linda Wagnon

A Pleasant Hill lass, Linda Ann Wagnon, is 1969’s Miss Springfield.
Miss Wagnon won the annual crown at Thurston High School Saturday before a reported 750 persons. The Pleasant Hill girl presented a dramatic monologue from the Russian play ”Anastasia” where she was trying to convince her empress grand­mother that she was indeed Anastasia. Miss Wagnon says she had help from a woman connected with the Very Little Theater. She said one woman was moved to tears by her performance.
The Pleasant Hill miss who serves on McCall’s Teen Fashion board – spon­sored by McCall’s, Vogue, Butterick, and Simplicity Pattern companies – indi­cated that she wants to attend Oregon State University to learn dress-making but says she will probably be too busy this year. She may enroll next fall at Lane Community College.
Concerning her chances of winning Saturday, Linda told The Chronicle she wasn’t nervous ”until they made us wait 15 or 20 minutes,” while they made up their minds. But, ”I had a lot of encour­agement,” she said.
Pleasant Hill High School student body is holding an assembly in her honor today. She is supposed to present her Anastasia monologue in her speech class.
Besides competing in the Miss Oregon pageant in July, Linda is scheduled to appear in the downtown Eugene parade in the near future.
The blue-eyed, brown­haired miss Springfield was chosen from 11 contestants by judges directed to base 50 percent on talent, 25 on evening gown and 25 percent in the swimsuit competition.
Linda was formerly active with 4-H with horses.
She said people told her that her mouth dropped when her name was announced as the new Miss Springfield. How does she feel now? ”Just happy.”
