Dawgs win six events at Douglas track meet

The Creswell Bulldogs won six individual events and topped boys’ team standings with 136 points while the Lady Dawgs placed third with 79 points during a Special District 4 Central Region track and field meet hosted by Douglas on April 16.
“We raced and performed really well at the Douglas meet,” said Creswell Head Coach Jonathan Ferguson.
Gauge Smith and Nick Bronson each won two events for the Bulldogs: Smith won the boys’ 100 meters in 11.56a and the 200m in a season record of 23.15a, while Bronson won the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.65a and the 300m intermediate hurdles with a PR of 41.86a.
Josiah Lee also won the 800m in 2:15.85a.
Harmony Goodman recorded the Lady Dawgs’ only win, in the triple jump at 24-11.
Also scoring for the Bulldog boys, Lee placed second in the 1500m with a PR of 4:46.91a while Grant Marshall placed third in a season’s-best 4:48.48a, Brandon Moehlmann placed fourth in a PR of 4:48.83a, Jackson Parker placed fifth in a PR of 5:03.07a and Jackson Velarde placed sixth in 5:10.97a.
Velarde placed second in the 3000m in 10:58.58a; Moehlmann placed third in the 800m in a PR of 2:19.54a while Parker placed fourth in a PR of 2:23.27a; Payden Criddle placed third in the triple jump at a PR of 38-0 and fourth in the long jump at 17-01.50; and Marshall placed fourth in the triple jump at a PR of 37-07.5 and fifth in the 400m in a PR of 59.19a.
Lee placed fifth in the high jump at a PR of 5-04; Devin Johnson placed fifth in the 200m in 24.84a; and Hugo Taura was seventh in the 400m in a PR of 1:02.16a.
Also scoring for the girls, Shelby Lamm placed second in both the 100m in a season’s-best 13.62a and the 200m in a season’s-best 13.62a; Hannah Bettis placed second in both the 100m high hurdles in 18.20a and the 300m hurdles in a PR of 51.90a; and Kendyl Seiber placed third in both the 100m hurdles in 19.10a and the 300m hurdles in a PR of 52.15a.
Johana Vazquez placed fifth in the 100m hurdles in a PR of 30:13a; Allison Smathers placed fifth in the 800m in 3:07.53a while Goodman placed sixth in 3:09.03a; Goodman was fifth in the 1500m in 6:24.20a while Smathers was sixth in a PR of 6:29.89a; Merrily Arnold placed fifth in the long jump at a PR of 13-10; and Seiber was sixth in the javelin at 68-11.
Pleasant Hill placed second among boys’ teams with 126 points, Camas Valley was third with 89, Sutherlin placed fourth with 87, Douglas was fifth with 59.5, Harrisburg was sixth with 40.5 and South Umpqua was seventh with 34.
Pleasant Hill won the girls’ meet with 133 points. South Umpqua placed second with 85, Sutherlin placed fourth with 63, Harrisburg was fifth with 58, Camas Valley was sixth with 46 and Douglas was seventh with 33.
This week, the Bulldogs host a Special District 4 Northern Region meet – Creswell’s only home event of the season. It will feature many of the same teams as were at Douglas, since both are SD-4 meets.
“We are all in Special District 4; we just labeled our meets like that because our league is so spread out – from Brookings to Harrisburg,” Ferguson said.
