A Creswell High School alum recently was honored with a 2019 Friend of Agriculture award in Pinedale, Wyo.
Zach Turnbull is a large carnivore biologist and was given the award by the Green River Valley Cowbelles/Cattlewomen. Turnbull is a Creswell High School Class of 1998 graduate and obtained a degree in Fisheries and Wildlife Science from Oregon State University.
Bondurant Rancher Kevin Campbell said that Turnbull is deserving of this award, and noted that he’s worked with him over the past several years in dealing with the wolf predations they had in their cattle.
Campbell said he has been ”real fortunate to have him to work with. He is an expert and very professional at what he does, plus very dedicated and hardworking. Blessed with more common sense than most people. Zach is a true asset and friend to the ranchers of Sublette County. He cares.”
Dan Thompson, a Wyoming Game and Fish Large Carnivore Supervisor, said that Turnbull ”possesses the rare trait of common sensibility, amazing field skills and the knowledge and expertise to be considered an expert in the field of large carnivore ecology, conservation and management.”
Albert Sommers, Wyoming State Representative and member of the Green River Valley Cattlemen, said Turnbull is dedicated and a tireless worker.
”Zach is wonderful to work with because he is so knowledgeable and hardworking,” said Jonita Sommers, member of the Green River Valley Cowbelles. ”He is very dedicated to his job. It doesn’t matter when or how many times a day you call him, he comes in a timely manner. He wants what is best for the bear and the cattle.”
Turnbull also has been recognized with the 2015 Peer Recognition Award for the Game and Fish Pinedale Region and 2012 Team of the Year award for the Game & Fish Large Carnivore section. He began his career as the Pinedale large carnivore biologist in December 2005.
