Arbor Day will be held at the Cobalt Activity Center on Saturday, April, 27 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., the Parks and Tree Advisory Committee decided on their Feb. 12 meeting at 10 a.m.
With press releases and flyers getting ready to be released next meeting, the committee is already planning on creating an event that includes the Duck Truck with food and cupcakes, as well as a way to get students in the community involved.
A coloring poster contest will be open to all fourth grade students, including homeschooled children, and the winning poster will be used to advertise the Arbor Day events scheduled during the day. The contest will will also have a photo opportunity with the Mayor of Creswell, Richard Zetterval.
The contest will begin around April 1 with entries submitted by April 16 in order to be counted. All participants will be given a free Every Kid in the Park Pass, which can be used for federal lands and waters for one year.
Elderberry trees were planted at the Cobalt Center on Feb. 12. Committee members Norma-Jean Osbourne, Brent Murphy and Chair Reilly Newman took part in the planting.
Crippen Design has agreed to create the design for the Arbor Day banner that will go across Oregon Avenue, and Wise Woman Herbals will not be able to participate in Arbor Day or the garden.
In the next meeting, the committee with continue its Arbor Day Plans and discuss the Fruitlands Park Concept.
