The new year just got a little bit more exciting for one Creswell couple.
Robert, ”Jonesy” Jones recently dipped into the Round Up Tavern at 13 N. Front St. to catch up with his buddies, but walked out with more than he bargained for – in a good way.
Jones stopped in to visit owner Kelly Coughlin and the ”very sweet” bartender Ulla Hacker-Harada, said Jones’ wife, Christina, and decided to play some Keno 8-Spot.
”I was watching the numbers as I was playing and missed them; I knew I hit six of eight,” he said. Hacker-Harada checked the numbers: Jones had won $32,012 playing Keno.
One could imagine his excitement.
Round Up Bartender Robin Joyce wasn’t working that day, but said that no one has hit the lottery this big on Keno, at least since Coughlin purchased the bar in 2010.
”We’ll get $600 here and $600 there, but this was the first winnings we’ve had like that,” Joyce said.
According to Oregon Lottery, players who play the Keno 8-spot have a chance at the rolling jackpot bonus, which increases each game that no one matches all eight numbers.
In Jones’ case, the bonus had increased to $17,012. With the base prize of $15,000, making his total prize worth $32,012.
Christina said the couple is very grateful for their winnings and will likely tuck away the money.
