School board dismisses complaints

During the Jan. 9 school board regular meeting, the school board held an executive session to consider the dismissal or disciplining of, or to hear complaints or charges brought against a public officer, employee, staff member or agent. The executive session is held pursuant to ORS 192.660(2)(b). After executive session ended, the board voted on items discussed during the session.
Board Director Mike Anderson moved to dismiss complaint number one, which was seconded by Board Director David Eusted. Board Directors Paul Randall, Lacey Risdal and Natalie Smathers voted ”yes” to dismiss the complaint, while Board Chair Tim Rogers abstained from voting.
Rogers shared that Board Policy BDD – Board Meeting Procedures states: ”If a Board member chooses to abstain from voting, and the abstention is due to a conflict of interest, the Board member will state the reason for the abstention and such abstention will be recorded.”
Rogers said he abstained from this vote because the complainant in question is a friend of his.
Rogers also abstained from voting on complaint number two, which Smathers motioned to dismiss and Anderson seconded. Randall, Eusted and Risdal voted ”yes” to dismiss the complaint.
