The Creswell Bulldogs gave it their all during their Senior Night game against Regis on Oct. 12, but unfortunately fell to the visiting Rams, 20-38.
Before kickoff, the Dawgs honored nine seniors: Dean Howard, Levi Bones, Tayler Forsman, Nick Mullen, Tyler Olson, Marquin Robinson, Cameron DuFault, Enrique Rea-Cortes and Anthony Petta.
”It’s been a good group of guys, whether this is their first year or their fourth,” said Head Coach Scott Worsham. ”I’ve appreciated the hard work they’ve put in – not only this year but in previous seasons as well.”
The seniors were joined by their families at the edge of the field as the seniors’ letters of appreciation and favorite football memories were read aloud – and all nine started the game. Whether on offense, defense, kick off or kick off return, ”We found a way to have them all start somewhere, and they all got to be announced as starters,” Worsham said.
Regis scored twice for a 12-0 first-quarter lead, but Creswell answered in the second period as Howard scored on a 34-yard pass from quarterback Dallton Dewey, with Bones supplying the extra-point kick.
Regis scored late in the half, but with about 30 seconds remaining Forsman scored on a 55-yard run, with Bones again adding the extra point kick, and Creswell closed to 14-25 at halftime.
”We got off to a very rough start; nothing worked up until the second quarter. But we were feeling pretty good after that,” Worsham said.
In the third, Bones scored on a three-yard pass from Dewey and the Dawgs closed to 20-25. Forsman’s attempted two-point conversion pass to Tyler Nicol in the endzone was incomplete.
Creswell immediately got the ball again at the 50-yard line with an onside kick, ”and at that point we had a lot of momentum and were feeling pretty good – but we couldn’t find a way to score again,” Worsham said.
Regis didn’t score in the third but scored twice in the fourth.
”We made them work pretty hard for their next touchdown,” Worsham said, noting it took the Rams eight plays to score.
Dewey completed 12 of 27 passes for 123 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Forsman completed two of three passes for seven yards.
Howard caught four passes for 63 yards, with a touchdown; Forsman caught four passes for 40 yards; Bones caught three passes for 15 yards, with a touchdown; Dewey caught two passes for seven yards and Olson caught one pass for five yards.
Forsman rushed 14 times for 91 yards and a touchdown. Dewey rushed nine times for 40 yards.
Jaycob Kremer led the defense with nine tackles. Mullen had six tackles; Logan Johnson had five tackles and a sack; and Tyler Atwood, Gabe Hastings and Olson each had five tackles.
”We had a hard time maintaining any kind of long drives down the field to score,” Worsham said. ”Regis has some pretty big linemen and three or four pretty fast kids.”
Creswell’s final two games are on the road, at Jefferson on Friday, Oct.19 and at Monroe on Oct. 26.
”Jefferson’s a good team; they’re second in our league and ranked in the top 10, and have a lot of good athletes, so they’re going to be tough,” Worsham said. ”We’ll have to gear up and work hard – but our defense has been playing a lot better lately, so we’ll see if we can exploit some of their weaknesses on defense and find a way to shut them down.”
