Moehlmann paces CHS harriers in Florence 5k

Brandon Moehlmann once again paced the Creswell Bulldogs cross country team as they participated in the competitive annual Woahink Lake Cross Country Invitational, held Sept. 29 at East Woahink Lake in Honeyman State Park in Florence.
Moehlmann, one of four sophomores to compete for the Bulldogs in the boys’ 5,000-meter race, placed 58th in a field of 89 runners — nearly all from larger schools — with a time of 19:37.66.
Josiah Lee placed 61st for Creswell, with a time of 20:03.86. Seth Handman finished in 21:37.74 and Jackson Velarde finished in 29:48.11.
Central Catholic topped boys’ team standings with 34 points. West Linn placed second with 43 points and South Eugene placed third with 53.
Two freshmen ran the boys’ 5k for the Bulldogs. Chance Hemenway placed 83rd in a field of 191 runners with a time of 21:38.94. Gonzalo Cardenas finished in 35:36.73.
Two Creswell girls, both seniors, also competed at the JV level. McKenzie Traetow placed 36th out of 113 runners in the girls’ JV 5k with a time of 25:50.89, while Emily Garcia placed 77th in 29:22.53.
Athletes representing 23 high schools competed at the Woahink Lake Invitational.
“Brandon led our boys’ team this week with another solid performance and McKenzie paced our girls’ team with another great run this week,” said Creswell Head Coach Jonathan Ferguson, noting that registration cutoffs led to the teams being split between varsity and JV races.
“Our teams competed really well,” Ferguson added. “Our race plan for most of the team was to get out harder than normal during this race and it helped our kids get into better position than in previous races.”
