Boys’ soccer Dawgs, Billies net goose-egg draw

It was goose eggs all around as the Creswell Bulldogs boys’ soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie with the visiting Pleasant Hill Billies on Sept. 10. It was the Dawgs’ only match for the week, after a non league contest at Westside Christian on Sept. 12 was canceled after several game delays caused by thunderstorms.
“We had three lightning delays, then played about two more minutes after the last delay, and then here came more lightning, so it was canceled,” Creswell Head Coach Brandi Wittenborn said of the Westside Christian outing. Attempts are underway to reschedule the game for later in the season.
Against Pleasant Hill, the Bulldogs, “Definitely outplayed them and outshot them about 4-1 — we just couldn’t get anything to go in,” Wittenborn said.
“We were either shooting right at their keeper, or shots were hitting the top of the goalpost and coming out, or the corner of the post and rolling out instead of in,” she added. “We had beautiful headers off corner kicks that just missed going in, shots that deflected off somebody… We were just so close, time and time again.”
Key shooters included Avel Garcia-Fetter — who scored a hat trick in a game the previous week — Rogelio Legorreta, Cam Nguyen, Grant Marshall, Dawson Sharkey and Kobe Sanders.
“But almost everybody that’s a shooter had some shots,” Wittenborn noted.
Jaxson Wilkerson made four “really good saves” in goal for the Bulldogs.
“Those were pretty much their only shots, to our 15 to 20 shots,” Wittenborn said.
This week, the Dawgs open league play by traveling to La Pine and hosting Santiam Christian.
