The City of Creswell will hold a general election on Nov. 6, and voters will be tasked to select a new mayor and three councilors to fill the City’s roster.
Deadline to file is this Tuesday, Aug. 28 at 5 p.m., which also includes signature verification, City Elections Official Roberta Tharp said.
Mayor Dave Stram’s term ends this year. It was announced in the weeks prior that Council President Richard Zettervall is the first confirmed mayoral candidate.
Since then, fellow City Councilor Gary Mounce has entered the mayoral race.
Four positions will be vied for for city councilor, though only two people have vied for the seats, Alonzo Costilla and Kevin Prociw.
Council terms expire for Misty Inman, Mounce and Zettervall this year.
Those who are elected will join councilors Amy Knudsen, Judy Drago and Martha McReynolds Jr., as their terms are not set to expire until 2020.
All positions are non-partisan and elected at large, meaning that candidates may reside in any area within the boundaries of the City of Creswell.
To qualify as a candidate for Mayor or City Councilor one must be a qualified elector under the laws and constitution of the State of Oregon, and a registered voter of the City of Creswell; in addition to being a resident of the City of Creswell, who has resided continuously in the city during the year immediately preceding the election they are filing for.
Any person wishing to run for office may pick up a packet from Tharp’s office located in City Hall,13 S. 1st St.
Tuesday, Aug. 28 is the last day for candidates for both local or district offices to file a declaration of candidacy or nominating petition, and is also the deadline to file or withdraw candidate statements or ballot measure arguments for the state Voters’ Pamphlet, according to Secretary of State Dennis Richardson. Statements must be filed or withdrawn electronically using ORESTAR.
Aug. 28 is also the last day for nonaffiliated or minor political party candidates to file certificate of nomination, Richardson stated.
Thursday, Aug. 30 is the last day for candidates who file for candidacy with county clerks to file county Voters’ Pamphlet statement.
Other upcoming dates include:
– Ballots will be mailed to military and overseas voters on Saturday, Sept. 22.
– Monday, Sept. 24 is National Voter Registration Day.
– Voters’ Pamphlets will be delivered between Sept. 22 and 24 and Oct. 10 and 12.
– The deadline to register to vote is Tuesday, Oct. 16.
– On Oct. 17, mailing ballots begin.
– And, of course, Nov. 6 is election day.
