Each month, Lane County Sheriff Office Creswell Sergeant Scott Denham currates a sheriff’s report for calls received and is presented to Creswell City Council. According to the report presented to on Aug. 13, deputies received 199 calls regarding a variety of activity in July 2018.
There were two Measure 11 calls received. Measure 11s range from murder, manslaughter, homicide, assault, kidnapping, sodomy, rape and arson. Both calls turned into cases.
One call was generated from the previously reported alleged rape that occurred on Super 8 Motel on July 27, Sergeant Denham said. The other was a vague report which may be unfounded, and may not have occured in Creswell, he said.
Six Offense Against State calls were received, relating to drugs and warrants and three reports were generated.
Twenty-nine Property calls were received, ranging from burglaries, theft, criminal mischief, trespassing and found property. Of those 29 Property calls, 13 turned into cases.
A total of 30 Person calls were received, ranging from assaults, menacing, harassment and violations for restraining orders. Of those 30 Person calls, five cases were generated.
A total of 78 Public Order calls were received, ranging from disorderly subjects, suspicious vehicles and persons, animal calls and citizen initiated contacts.
In June, there were 48 reported calls regarding Public Order. Sergeant Denham related to City Administrator Michelle Amberg, and said that the spike in calls was likely surrounding July 4th activities. Of those 78 Public Order calls, three turned into cases.
Twenty-seven Individual Welfare calls were received, ranging from welfare checks, missing persons, overdoses and suicidal subjects. Of those 27 Individual Welfare calls, two cases were generated.
Seventeen vehicle calls were received, relating to DUIIs, illegal parking, traffic hazards and crashes. Of those 17 calls, two cases were opened.
In other news, council also adopted the ordinance that declares blighted areas exist in the city, which establishes a need for an Urban Renewal Agency.
On June 11, council authorized Amberg to contract with Elaine Howard Consulting LLC and Tiberius Solutions LLC to create a plan for the preparation of an Urban Renewal Plan. Staff began working with Elaine Howard Consulting LLC to create the plan.
A draft plan is expected to be presented to council at their September city council work session.
Also at last week’s meeting, council approved a policy for annually reviewing the city administrator, municipal judge and city attorney.
The Administration and Finance Committee was tasked with reviewing the process that is used to review these three positions. The goal was to update job descriptions and conduct annual performance evaluations with results metrics tied to department goals.
Council also adopted the performance goals outlined for the city administrator.
The motions passed unanimously.
Mayor Stram appointed Councilor Misty Inman to be the City’s Lane Area Commission on Transportation (LACT) representative for the remainder of 2018; City Planner Maddie Phillips will be the alternate.
The next council meeting will be a work session, and will be held on Aug. 27 at 6 p.m. at City Hall, 13 S. 1st St. The public is encouraged to attend.
