Join the Coast Fork Birders in the Cottage Grove 2026 Midwinter Eagle Count

When:
January 18th, 2026 (Sunday)

Where: (2 locations)
Dorena Reservoir: Start Time: 9:30 a.m.
Morning Parking: Park in the Walmart parking lot (close to Outdoor Living)
Count is predicted to last from 10 am – 1 pm.

Cottage Grove Reservoir: Start Time: 2 p.m.
Afternoon Parking: Lakeside Park
Count is predicted to last until around 4 pm.

Anyone is welcome!

In the past, the Coast Fork Birders have seen from around 9 eagles at a reservoir to zero.
Grace says, “Usually, we do see some, but I like to warn folks that there is no guarantee. These are wild animals and we can’t predict where they will be hanging out. (In the past we have had folks come along who were expecting more of a “safari” experience with close-ups of the eagles). We will have some scopes available but if people have their own binoculars, they should bring them.
You can join us at either one or both depending on your schedule and wishes. If you want to survey both reservoirs, be sure to bring lunch and water (or a hot beverage) for yourself.”

For this even it is always recommended that participants dress warmly and be prepared for the weather. Carpooling will be organized at the first parking locations for Dorena & Cottage Grove Reservoirs. There are restrooms available at some of the parking areas.

We will be recording all species of birds observed into eBird. Alison Center will continue her decades of leading this eagle count research.
